How can I switch between OU and DHS Teams?

If you need to use Microsoft Teams to communicate with both OU employees and DHS employees, there are a couple ways you can use Teams on both networks at the same time. Follow the instructions below to set up your computer with both OU and DHS Teams.

Option 1: Use the new Teams app

  1. Open your Microsoft Teams desktop application. Make sure you are using the new version of Teams.
    • If you are still using the classic version of Teams, you should be prompted to open new Teams. Select Yes, go to new Teams.
  2. Once you have the new version of the Teams app open, select your profile picture in the upper right.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select Add another account.

  1. In the pop-up window, enter your credentials for your second organization’s account.
  2. You should now be able to switch between OU Teams and DHS Teams within your Teams desktop app by selecting your profile picture and then selecting the account you want to access.

Option 2: Use an incognito browser window

  1. Determine which network you use most often. This will be referred to as your “primary network” in the following steps.
    • For example, if your work requires that you use OU systems and accounts most of the time, but you occasionally need to message DHS employees on Teams, OU will be your primary network.
  2. Log in to the Microsoft Teams desktop application on your computer using your credentials for the primary network.
  3. To use Teams on your secondary network, you will need to open your web browser and then open an incognito window (if you’re using a browser other than Chrome, this may be called a “private window” or “inPrivate window”).
This is what an incognito window looks like in Google Chrome
  1. In your new incognito window, go to https://teams.microsoft.com and wait for it to redirect you to the Microsoft Sign in page.
    • If your Teams automatically loads with you signed in to your primary network, this means you have opened a normal browser window instead of an incognito window.
  2. Sign in using your credentials for your secondary network.
  3. Wait for Teams to load.
    • If OU is your secondary network, you may need to use PingID to authenticate your log-in attempt.
  4. You should now be able to switch between OU Teams and DHS Teams by using both your Teams desktop app and your incognito browser window.
    • Please note you will need to log in to your secondary Teams network again after each time you close your incognito browser window. This is because an incognito window, by design, does not save your credentials or browser history.
