How do I log in to the Foster Care and Adoption LMS?
When you’re approved for online training, your agency will request a new account for you in the Foster Care and Adoption Learning Management System (LMS).
You must discuss online training with your agency or Child Welfare Specialist before you can access the LMS.
Once your account is created, you’ll receive an email with your username and a temporary password. Search your email inbox (including junk and spam folders) for a message from noreply@learn.okfosters.org containing your account information.
If you can’t locate the email, look up your account in the system using your email address (which should also be your username):
- Go to the Foster Care and Adoption LMS login page.
- Select the Forgotten your username or password? link next to the username and password fields.
- Enter your Email address (all lowercase) in the Search by email address section and select Search.
- Check your email for a message from noreply@learn.okfosters.org containing your username and temporary password.
When you have your account information, go to the LMS login page and enter your username and password, then select the Log in button. The system will prompt you to update your temporary password when you log in for the first time.

If you don’t receive your account information within 15 minutes, please contact the CPM Help Desk at help@oucpm.org or 405-325-6257 (available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., M-F). Emails and voicemails are addressed within one business day.

How does the RFT program work? (Resource Family Training)
Courses in the Resource Family Training (RFT) category are part of the Guiding Principles for Oklahoma Resource Families Online Training, a research-based, trauma-informed learning program that equips resource families with practical tools that they can use when caring for children and youth.
The online RFT program is designed to provide the 27 hours of preservice training required for all resource parents by Oklahoma state law.
The program consists of an introduction plus nine sessions, and each session includes three activities:
- A Learning Module activity that opens in a new window and includes information, questions and online learning activities.
- Big Picture Questions where learners enter a text response to questions about the lesson material.
- A multiple-choice quiz that allows unlimited attempts. Learners must achieve a grade of 80% or more to move to the next activity.
- A certificate for you to print or save after completing the quiz.
Learners are given access to three sessions at a time by their Resource Family Training Specialist: Sessions 1-3, 4-6 and 7-9. The Training Specialist evaluates a learner’s Big Picture Question responses and conducts Session Review Phone Calls after Sessions 3, 6 and 9, then unlocks the next set of three sessions.
When you complete a course, submit the certificate to your resource specialist.
How does in-service training work? (Courses and Video Assessments)
Each adult in a foster or kinship home is required to have 12 hours of training each year. Courses and Video Assessments in the Foster Care and Adoption LMS are one way of obtaining these credit hours.
In-service training Courses and Video Assessments are available for self-service enrollment, so you can choose which courses you take and enroll yourself on your own. Need help finding a course or help enrolling in a course?
Most in-service training courses in the LMS are Video Assessments, which include:
- An approximately one-hour video to watch (transcripts are available).
Note: a few in-service training courses contain Learning Modules instead. - A multiple-choice quiz that allows unlimited attempts. Learners must achieve a grade of 70% or more to move to the next activity.
- A certificate for you to print or save after completing the quiz.
When you complete a course, submit the certificate to your resource specialist.
Activity Types
How do Learning Module activities work?
Some courses in the LMS (including RFT) include a Learning Module activity , which opens a lesson in a separate window.

Select the learning module to view the activity info, then select Enter to launch the lesson.

Be careful not to close the original LMS window after opening the learning module, or your progress won’t save.
Learning modules open to a Overview page, which can include a lesson overview, learning objectives, and new vocabulary for the module.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to find two navigation buttons:

Select the Course Menu button to go to the learning module’s menu where you can review your progress.
Select the Next Topic button to move to the next topic in the module.
The Course Menu displays a card with your progress for each topic in the module. Select view on a card to open the topic.

When you’re done, simply close the lesson and the original LMS window will refresh with your updated progress in a few seconds. If you exit before finishing, you can return to where you left off next time you open the learning modules.
How do I complete the exercises in a learning module?
Although they’re different for each course, every learning module contains a variety of teaching interactions and questions.
You must answer every question and view every card, tab and information block on the page. Otherwise, the module won’t let you move to the next topic.
Tab interactions: select every tab to view each information block before moving forward in the module.

- Accordion interactions: select every listed item (+) to expand (–) and view each block of information before moving forward in the module.
- Card Carousel interactions: select the arrows to view all cards before moving forward in the module. The row of dots at the bottom indicate how many cards there are to view.
- Multiple Choice questions: select your answer choice(s), click Submit and a box will pop up with feedback (select x to close the box).
- Dropdown questions: for each prompt, select the matching answer from the dropdown menu. When you have chosen all your answers, click Submit and a box will pop up with feedback (select x to close the box).
- Thinking questions with a text box for a typed answer: enter your response (some questions have a minimum length requirement) and select submit.
Select the progress bar in the top right-hand corner of each topic window to view the topic navigation menu, which can help you find skipped questions or incomplete interactions that are required to get credit for the module.

Help! I completed a learning module but the system says I didn’t.
If you finish and return to the course homepage, but notice that the learning module isn’t marked complete, re-enter the activity. The system measures progress by tracking what you view in your browser window and what exercises you complete (for example, clicking through a slideshow corresponds to a certain percentage of completion), and it’s easy to miss some items.
- Find which specific topic is unfinished by clicking the Course Menu button at the bottom of the page.
- Select an incomplete topic.
- Click the pill-shaped progress bar in the top right-hand corner of the section window to view the topic navigation menu. The menu indicates which items have been completed so far.

- Select an incomplete item and the module will guide you to it.
- Make sure to click through every tab/information block and complete every question.
- Repeat for each incomplete section.

Close the activity window when finished, and the learning module should now be marked complete.
How do Big Picture Question activities work?
In each of the nine RFT sessions, the Big Picture Questions activity comes after the learning module and contains two free-answer questions about major concepts discussed in the lesson.

- Select the Big Picture Question activity from the session homepage, then click Begin Questions.
- Enter your response to the question in the text field.

- Select Save & Continue to save your response and move to the next question, or click Save Response to save your response and remain on the question page.
- You can return to a question and change your response at any time before submitting.
- Your answer won’t save until you select Save & Continue or Save Response.
- When you are satisfied with your responses, go to the Submit page.

- Select the Submit Responses button.
- The system will warn that after you submit, you can no longer alter your responses.
- If you want to go back and review, use the tabs to navigate through the questions and return to the Submit page when you’re ready.
After you submit, the Big Picture Question still requires approval before it is marked complete. When you submit your response, the system alerts your Training Specialist so they can review your answers.
- If your response is approved, you’ll receive a notification email, and you can move forward to the next RFT session.
- If your response requires revision, you will receive a notification email and must discuss the question with your Training Specialist during your Session Review Phone call.
How do Video activities work?
Some courses in the LMS (including most in-service training courses) include a Video activity . Select the video name to open it.

Select the play arrow to start the video. Playback controls are available at the bottom of the video:
Pause/play
Volume
Skip forward/back
Captions
Full screen

If needed, select View Transcript to download an .rtf (rich text) file of the video dialogue.

If you open the transcript in MS Word, you may be asked to select the encoding that makes your document readable. Select Windows (Default) and click OK to continue
When you’ve finished watching the video, use the Jump to… dropdown menu below the video or the link in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to continue to the next activity in the course (usually an Assessment).
How do Certificates work?
Both preservice (RFT) and in-service training courses in the LMS include a Certificate that is unlocked when you complete all of the required activities in the course. (Completed activities display a checked box on the course homepage, opposite the activity name.)

Select the Certificate name, then click Get your certificate to open it in a new window.

You have the option to print the certificate or download it as a .pdf, depending on what works best for you and your training specialist.
