Adapt User's Guide version 4.5

Spoor

Spoor enables communication between the Adapt course and a host LMS. Without this extention installed, learners will not be able to complete your course.

Spoor Settings

Spoor typically requires no configuration: The default settings should always work and should not be altered unless you have a specific need and understand the implications of changing the setting.

Configuration Settings

These settings are one of the few places where changing a setting will cause an LMS to reject the package. Do not edit these settings unless you are familiar with SCORM 1.2/2004 and understand the implications of the setting. Only a basic attempt at defining potential issues is made as covering SCORM is well beyond the scope of this guide.

Enables or Disables the extension.

If enabled, the score attained in any assessment will be reported back to the LMS (regardless of whether the user passes or fails the assessment). This requires that you have installed and configured the Assessment extension and created one assessment that includes the Assessment Results component. Disabled by default.

If enabled, the user’s responses to questions will be saved and restored in each session. Note that it is up to the LMS to provide responses back to the course and there are many situations where the LMS will not do this.

If enabled, the course will record the user’s responses to questions to the cmi.interactions SCORM data fields.

What status to report back to the LMS when the tracking criteria are met. Changing this option imposes requirements on your course that you may or may not want, such as a required assessment or can cause the course to never be completed. The default value is “completed”.

What status to report back to the LMS when the assessment is failed. Use caution when altering this setting as “failed” requires that you have installed and configured the Assessment extension and created one assessment that includes the Assessment Results component. Use “completed” if you want to make the assessment optional. However the argument can be made that you should not use an assessment if you don’t want it to be required.

The default, “incomplete”, will require that the learner successfully completes the assessment.

Should be left unchecked, as multilingual courses are not supported in the current version.

If enabled, a popup window will be shown on course launch that gives detailed information about what SCORM calls are being made. This can be very useful for debugging SCORM issues. Note that this popup window will appear automatically if the SCORM code encounters an error, even if this is set to false.

This option should never be enabled on a production course.

If enabled, a ‘commit’ call will be made any time the lesson_status is changed. Enabled by default.

The frequency (in minutes) at which a ‘commit’ call should be made automatically. Set to 0 to disable automatic commits altogether. The default is 10.

If a ‘commit’ call fails, this setting controls how many times it should be retried before giving up and throwing an error. The default is 5.

How much of a delay (in milliseconds) to leave between commit retries. The default is 2000.

If enabled, error messages will not be displayed when SCORM tracking problems occur. The default is unchecked, but this can be enabled in a known working course.

If enabled, a ‘commit’ call will be made whenever the course window is hidden/minimized. Requires a browser that supports the ‘visibilitychange’ event. Enabled by default.

Sets the ‘identifier’ attribute in the imsmanifest.xml
